Introduction- Shaun Higgins

My name is Shaun Higgins and I am starting my junior year here at BGSU. I am from a suburb of Pittsburgh named Center Township. In my time at BGSU, I have worked diligently to get involved and begin to build up my resume. I am currently the President of the Sport Management Alliance on campus. In the past, I have attended multiple events with SMA such as the Super Bowl and the MAC Championship game. This involvement led me to a summer job with the Pittsburgh Pirates, where I worked in the Guest Relations department. I have always been very interested and involved in sports. I played a variety of different sports growing up, but finally settled in on baseball throughout high school. I also ran cross country for two years. Upon arriving at BGSU, I played baseball for the club team. This was a great experience, but I had to let it go due to other commitments. The female athlete that I would pay to see would be Serena Williams. I chose her for a couple main reasons. First, I believe she is the most exciting female athlete in sports today. She plays with an intensity that is unmatched by anyone else. My second reason for choosing her is that I would like to pay to see a sporting event that I have not yet been to. Based on the fact that I have never seen tennis live, I feel it would be a great experience. On the male side, I would choose to see Tiger Woods. I think Tiger is fascinating in the way that he rose to the top and then came crashing down, but never let it truly affect his golf game. He is a constant competitor and I would love to see his game live on the course. Overall, I am very excited to be in this class. I believe gender in sport is a very controversial, yet vital subject in the overall spectrum of the sport field. I can already see through our first two classes that we will be able to have some great discussion and dig into the core of these issues. I look forward to a great semester.
