Introduction- Eddie Hodges

Hello all, my name is Eddie Hodges and I have just begun my junior year here at Bowling Green State University. I am from Kalamazoo, Michigan but I have also lived majority of my life in Memphis, Tennessee. From a young age, I have participated in many different sports and I have created a broad knowledge of many diverse sports. These experiences have led me into the sports management field today. After I graduate BGSU, I plan on going to law school somewhere in Texas and focus on contract and entertainment law. My ultimate dream job in sports management is to become a sports agent and have my own agency, that represents many athletes from different sports. I want to tap the market for each professional sport. While at the same time represent an NBA team in its legal department.

I set high goals in my life to reach, I believe that it feels way better to complete a goal in which you set so high rather than setting a goal in which you know you can accomplish with ease, because nothing in life comes easy. And those things in which do come easy have little or no value to me. This belief that I have makes me hungry and competitive, that is why I am probably one of the most competitive people I know. I don't like to lose but I know in order to succeed you have to feel what it feels like to lose. That is why if I could compare myself to any athlete it would have to be Kobe Bryant. Not on the level of skill but on I compare my drive, or my will to succeed, to Kobe because day in and day out he gives his all to win and takes all the necessary steps in order to do so.

Throughout this class, I would like to learn about the differences in how the media portrays male athletes in comparison to female athletes. I believe that still to this day male athletes are more respected than female athletes. Even though some female athletes deserve way more respect than their male counterparts. Another aspect I would like to look into in this class, is how race has a play on professional athletes and how they are portrayed in the media. This class seems to be a great class for discussion and different people's opinions on different topics of importance in sports. I look forward to learning other people's thoughts and opinions and plan to work in receiving an A.

  1. Hey Eddie,

I actually also moved here from Kalamazoo. Actually, I am pretty sure that we have had classes together in the past. I went to Schoolcraft High School and graduated in 2005. I know that you said you went to Comstock, what year did you graduate?

  2. I am also looking into going to law school, and becoming a sports agent. It is difficult to accomplish but it will be very rewarding once you do so!

  3. Eddie,

That is awesome that you are looking to become a Sports Agent. Everytime I hear the word Agent I think of the hilarious character Ari Gold from the TV show Entourage. Good luck with accomplishing your dream!

  4. Eddie,

I like that you stayed on top of your grind after moving when you were a kid. a lot of people would try to use that as an excuse to not put in the work hard. Now you in college trying to become an agent. Just continue to put in hard work and you'll get ther. Good luck.
