Budget Allocation - Shaun Higgins, Travis Kash, Billy Nowak and Nicole Zawislan
When we had to decide how to use our money in this budget allocation, we first totaled up all the needs of all the teams which came to a total of $151,350. With a budget of only $120,000, it seems that we were not able to purchase everything we needed. We then implemented pay-to-play for each athlete regardless of which sport he or she participated in. We charged each student-athlete $25. With 459 student-athletes, that brings in $11,475 and a total spending budget of $131,475 which is still short of our total for the needs of all the sports teams. Then we took the $20,000 donation from an alum from the high school and added that to our budget bring a grand total up to $151,475, enough for just the needs of the teams. However, we know that just the needs would not cover the sports teams. We then had the four most participated sports perform a fundraiser. The four sports teams were: football raising $4,500 by 75 student-athletes, men’/women’s swimming raising $3,600 by 60 student-athletes, women’s track and field raising $3,900 by 65 student-athletes, and men’s track and field raising $3,300 by 55 student-athletes. These fundraisers now brought our grand total up to $166,775 for spending for the athletic department. We first took care of all the financial needs of each team dropping our total down to $46,775. Next, we granted the requests to all the teams that wanted new jerseys/suits for the season totaling $7,400 bringing the grand total remaining down to $39,375. We then granted the request to the football team for new helmets totaling $6,000 again bringing the total down again to $33,375. We finally spent money on the new field equipment for each men’s track and field and women’s track and field. Each costs $6,500 totaling $13,000. The remaining money we have in our budget is now at $20,375. Now we want to reward those first place teams who won conference. We had two teams win their conference softball and men’s and women’s downhill skiing. They both asked for team trips worth $10,000 each. We granted both trips totaling $20,000 bringing down our total to $375. With the remaining $375, we wanted to spotlight the student-athletes that work hard both on and off the playing field and in the classroom. We took that money and split it in two to give a scholarship to the top male student-athlete and top female student-athlete of all sports. This would then bring our total budget to $0 taking care of all necessities and making sure extras were taken care of as well.
